Getting started
How do I open the shelf?
The shelf waits at the edge of your screen. Bring it out with Ctrl+Alt+Y, by dragging a file to the screen edge, by clicking the handle at the edge, or from the Nestra icon in the tray. You can also turn on Shake the mouse to summon in Settings › Summoning. The shelf tucks itself away again when you're done.
What are the keyboard shortcuts?
You can change all of them except Quit in Settings › Shortcuts.
Can Nestra start with Windows?
Yes. Turn on Start with Windows in Settings › General.
Is there a guide to everything Nestra can do?
Yes. Open Settings › About Nestra and choose Open guide.
The shelf
What can I put on the shelf?
Files, images, text and colours. Drag them on, or put what's on your clipboard there with Ctrl+Alt+V. A picture dragged from a website is kept at its full size.
Will my items still be there after a restart?
Yes. Nestra keeps its own copy of what you drop, so items stay even if the original was a temporary file or you later delete it.
Why did my files turn into a stack?
Files dropped together become one stack that names itself, like "3 PDFs". Click it to open the stack, drag one file out, or drag the whole stack at once.
Can I protect a stack from being cleared?
Yes. Lock it with the lock icon on the stack. A locked stack is kept when you remove items or use Clear shelf.
Clipboard and Recall
How do I find something I copied earlier?
Press Ctrl+Shift+Space, type a few letters, and press Enter to paste it into the app you were in. Shift+Enter pastes plain text, and Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+9 paste the top clips. Use the filters to show only text, links, images, files or colours.
Can Nestra find words inside images?
Yes. Images on the shelf and in your clipboard history are read on your PC with Windows text recognition, so a search for a word also finds screenshots and photos that show it.
Can I stop Nestra keeping something?
Yes. In Settings › Clipboard you can pause the history, exclude apps whose copies should never be kept, and choose to keep the last 50, 100 or 500 clips. You can remove any single clip too.
Does Nestra keep my passwords?
No. Copies that a password manager marks as private are always skipped, and text that looks like a password or key is shown masked until you hover over it.
Capture and recording
Where are my screenshots and recordings saved?
Screenshots go to Pictures › Nestra Screenshots and recordings to Videos › Nestra Recordings. They're normal files, and they stay even if you uninstall Nestra.
Can I record without sound?
Yes. Record a silent GIF instead of a video, or turn the microphone off before you start.
What does Clean voice do?
It removes background noise from your voice in a recording. It runs on your PC, and you can set how strong it is in the recording editor.
Buying and the trial
How much does Nestra cost?
$39.99, once. There's no subscription, and updates are free through the Microsoft Store.
How does the free trial work?
Get Nestra from the Microsoft Store and use every feature free for 15 days. When the trial ends, the Store asks you to buy it to keep using it. Nothing you made is lost.
Do I need an account?
Not for Nestra. There's nothing to sign up for. The Microsoft Store uses your Microsoft account for the purchase.
Who handles payments and refunds?
The Microsoft Store handles buying, receipts and refunds, under its own policies.
Something isn't working
A shortcut doesn't do anything.
Another app may already use it. Open Settings › Shortcuts: Nestra shows when a shortcut is taken, and you can pick a different one.
How do I send you details about a problem?
Open Settings › About Nestra and choose Export diagnostics. Nestra saves one file to your Desktop and copies it, so you can attach it to an email. It never includes your clipboard, file names or your Windows user name. See the privacy policy for exactly what's in it.
